I haven’t updated this site in a very long time.  I’m feeling…eh….bloggy?  My main problem is I don’t really know what to talk about.  Any ideas or suggestions?

A few years ago I could honestly say that I watched barely, if any, television. I remember when it was a big deal that I was watching Lost, a regular series that I had to follow!  I was usually playing games or watching movies or drinking or whatever.  Well, fast forward to today.  Today, I believe my wife and I have approximately 22 or 24 shows we follow and record.  REALLY!  Now, I could say, “But wait!  They aren’t all on at the same time! Some are summer! Some are winter! Some come on every third Tuesday!”  However, I’ll be honest.  My huge increase in TV watching can be summed up into three simple initials.  D.V.R.  or Digital Video Recorder.  DVR, you are the bane of my free time!

The problem with DVR boxes is simply how EASY it makes watching TV.  You don’t want to watch commercials? No problem.  You have have to go to a kids soccer game? No problem!  You want to watch Chuck while Iron Chef tapes?  NO PROBLEM!!!  This is honestly why I watch so many shows.  When you can watch a show on your own time, around job and family obligations, hitting that record button seems like such a great idea.

Now, before anyone thinks I’m complaining too much, let me tell you…..I watch some GREAT shows.  I just watched two hours of Chuck last night. It’s probably one of my favorite shows. Every geek boy in the world (and many geek girls) will love this show.  If you haven’t heard of it, go to Fancast, or Hulu, or NBC.com and watch past episodes. Big Bang Theory, Castle, Bones, True Blood, Psych, etc are all great shows. Megan loves Glee, and all the singing that comes with it.  And hey, Iron Chef rocks! Who knew two chefs cooking could supply any form of suspense whatsoever? Of course, you’ll see some crazy things cooked. Good and bad. No fried brains for me.

Anyway, all of this goes to show you that if you ever need a TV recommendation, let me know, I’ll point you in the right direction for what you’re looking for. Of course, I guess it makes sense, considering where I work.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

So here we are with a new year, and it’s been almost two months since I’ve bothered to post to this blog.  I’m just not the best at blogging.  I’ve found myself spending less and less time in front of the computer.  That’s actually pretty funny for those of you who know me. I used to spend hours and HOURS in front of the computer, doing anything and everything from chat to games to just wasting time.   I mean, I even met Megan through this boxy thing.  Still, it’s amazing how things change.  I figure I’ll update everyone on what’s been going on, then in the next couple of blogs I’ll be talking about some things I’ve been into lately.

HOSPITALS AND INFECTIONS (OR HOW I LEARNED TO LOVE ANTIBIOTICS)

So on December 2nd, I woke up feeling pretty funky.  I called into work thinking that I just couldn’t deal with it today, and was going to spend the day home resting.  Little did I know that two hours later I would be shivering like a mad man, thinking I’m totally freezing and burying myself under huge blankets.  It turns out that was a BAD idea.  I wasn’t cold, I was running a huge fever, along the lines of 102.9.  I called the doc, then changed my mind and called 911.  The paramedics showed up, said that everything looked fine other than the fever, but I should definitely go to the hospital. Ten minutes later Megan drives me to the hospital literally down the street.  By the time I’m admitted into the ER, the fever has gone up another degree.  Apparently fever peaked at about 104.9 before they could break it. I spent the next couple days in the ICU, then a night in regular area.  The first day they put four whole liters of fluid into me, trying to cool me down.  They didn’t really tell me, but apparently it was touch and go for a while, with them advising my wife to be prepared. (That phrase goes from Boy Scout motto to terror for my poor wife.).  A few days of antibiotics and I was discharged. Turns out that I had something called Cellulitis.  It’s basically an infection of the skin. Nasty nasty. 

After I left the hospital I got to experience the fun that is the pick line.  A pick line is basically a rubber tube going from your elbow through your vein to your heart.  It’s an easy way for docs to give you an IV without pricking you ever time.  The only problem was that mine was in a bad spot, so I kept leaking blood.  And it itched.  I needed it because I was still receiving antibiotics through injection daily at the hospital, all the way through the 23rd.  It was finally removed, and that was a pretty nice Christmas present.  I’m STILL on oral antibiotics, and dealing with a vascular specialist, as well as my regular doctor, to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We know what caused it, now I just have to work on preventing it from being a future issue.  

At this point, I’m back to work and chugging along.  It’s amazing how tired I felt at work after spending 3 weeks at home doing nothing.  However, it’s definitely a good feeling to be pulling in money again!
